From kittens to lasers in one sleek step….

9 Nov

I guess we all have those jobs that we’d love to be doing if we weren’t doing what we are doing.  In my case there’s a massively long list that includes such diverse choices as Divemaster, Furniture Restorer, Vet, X Factor winner and Creative Director of a successful advertising agency.  I have the skills to do a fraction of these but never let it be said that I’m not a trier. In another lifetime I am a dead ringer for Don Draper, moodily mooching my way through meetings before coming up with eye-poppingly awesome campaigns that make everyone sit up and beg.

I sat watching TV last night, I honestly couldn’t tell you what I was watching such was the depth of its nothingness. But it was during the adverts that my attention was piqued.  The new Skoda ad aired and I was drawn back into my fantasy world of sketches and story boards.  I have absolutely no connection to Skoda, or to Fallon the creative brains behind this campaign, but this is one of those moments when you see something brilliant and have to record it in some way.

Watch the video for yourself – it’s at the top left here on Fallon’s home page (give the page a second to populate), and it’s here somewhere on the Skoda site – obviously I’m sure you can find it on Youtube if you feel so inclined.  Watch it and tell me that Skoda hasn’t absolutely cracked it now…..

You know, I didn’t like it. I like the concept, but it just didn’t seem to make as much *sense* as the cake one. The materials just didn’t really, well, work for me…

Oooh, so it’s a marmite ad?! I just love the unapologetic nature of it, it gripped me…

Blimey. Skoda have gone a bit high tech. Not so sure about the snakes though. I used to fancy a lecturer who drove a Skoda. Don’t think they were quite so hip in those days. Anyway, that’s another story…
